Who we are

Slake Window Cleaning provides residential window cleaning, and related exterior cleaning, across the Greater Toronto Area. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Slake Window Cleaning, and "you" means anyone who visits this website or asks us for a quote.

If you have a question about your information, or want a copy of it or want it deleted, email hello@slakewindows.ca or call (647) 803-2449. We answer these ourselves — there is no privacy department to get lost in.

What we collect, and when

We only collect personal information when you give it to us. There is no account to create and nothing to sign up for.

When you fill in the quote form

The form asks for:

• Required: your first and last name, email address, phone number, street address, city, and which services you want
• Optional: how many storeys your building has, how you heard about us, and anything else you choose to tell us in the message box

We ask for your street address for one reason: to work out access, travel and how much glass there is, so the price we quote is the price you pay. We don't use it for anything else.

When you call, text or email us

We keep whatever you send us — your number, your email address and the contents of the conversation — so we can quote the job and pick up where we left off next time.

When you simply browse the site

Nothing is collected by us. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and has no tracking pixels or advertising tags on it. We cannot tell who you are, and we don't count your visit. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Our web host keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting, as essentially every web host does. That is the host's record, not ours, and we don't mine it.

How your quote request reaches us

When you submit the form, it is sent over an encrypted connection to our website's server, which immediately emails it to our own inbox at hello@slakewindows.ca. Your enquiry is not stored in a database on this website.

The one exception: if that email fails to send, the server writes a copy of the enquiry to a private file so your request isn't simply lost. That file sits outside the public website where it cannot be reached from the internet, and we clear it out once we've dealt with the enquiry.

What we use it for

• Preparing and sending your quote
• Scheduling and carrying out the work
• Invoicing you and keeping the records our accountant and the Canada Revenue Agency require
• Replying to you, and following up on a quote you asked for
• Honouring the guarantee if you ask us to come back

We will not add you to a marketing list off the back of a quote request. If we ever start sending promotional email, it will be because you asked for it, and every message will have a working unsubscribe link, as Canada's anti-spam law requires.

Who else can see it

We do not sell your personal information, and we never share it for anyone else's marketing. It is shared only with:

• Our crew — the people doing your job need your address and phone number, and nothing beyond that
• Google — our business email runs on Google Workspace, so your enquiry sits in an inbox hosted by Google
• Our web host — the server that receives the form and passes it to our inbox
• Anyone the law requires — for example a valid court order, or our accountant for tax records

These providers store data on servers that may be outside Canada, including in the United States, which means that country's authorities could in principle compel access to it under their own laws. This is true of nearly every Canadian small business that uses ordinary email.

A note on our fonts

This site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. Doing so tells Google's servers your IP address and roughly what browser you are using, in the same way visiting any website tells that site's server the same thing. We chose to tell you rather than let you discover it. No cookie is set by it.

How long we keep it

Quote requests that don't turn into work are deleted once they're clearly not going anywhere. If you become a customer, we keep your job and invoice records for as long as Canadian tax law requires us to — currently six years from the end of the tax year they relate to — and then we delete them.

You can ask us to delete your information sooner. We'll do it, except for anything we're legally required to hang on to, and we'll tell you if that applies.

Keeping it safe

The website is served over HTTPS, so what you type into the form is encrypted in transit. Our email accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Access is limited to the people who need it to do the job.

No one can promise perfect security, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that we collect as little as possible in the first place, which is the only protection that always works.

Your rights

Under Canada's federal privacy law, PIPEDA, you can:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you
• Get a copy of it
• Have anything wrong corrected
• Withdraw your consent and ask us to delete it
• Complain to us, and then to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if we haven't sorted it out

Email hello@slakewindows.ca and we'll respond within 30 days, which is the deadline the law sets.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect information from them. We're a window cleaning company; our customers are the people who own or manage the building.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information — for example if we add online booking or start using analytics — we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be obvious, not buried.
